Why we've switched to Harvest Hosts for our Long Travel Hauls

As you know, we don't choose most of our desetinations or the timing. Our RV Travel is determined by the tournament schedule and which lake the event is held. So that means events can be 12-18 hours travel from one to the other. And when we are rolling down the highways, it includes our fifth wheel + tow truck and the Toyota Tundra towing the bass boat. Planning for these long travel hauls can be tricky. We try to keep our daily drive time under 10 hours, and when you’re covering a lot of ground, a good overnight stop can make or break your day. That’s where Harvest Hosts has become a game-changer for us.
Here’s why we love it — and why we think every RVer should give it a try.
1. Perfect for Overnight Stopovers on Long Routes
When we’re driving cross-country or heading to a tournament or event, Harvest Hosts gives us the flexibility to find unique overnight stays right along our route. Many allow same day reservations on the app so the travel day can have some flexibility. And definitely no $50 fees for a noisy night in a truck stop parking lot.
2. The App Is Intuitive and Convenient
One of our favorite features of the Harvest Hosts app is how easy and intuitive it is. We can search along our route, filter by 50amp because we want an electrical hookup, check out photos from other RVers, and quickly determine if the spot will work for our setup — which is no small feat with a large rig, a tow vehicle, and a truck + boat as well. The visuals and reviews give us confidence before we book to help eliminate surprises.
3. It’s Safer and Quieter Than a Truck Stop
Let’s be honest — truck stops aren’t our favorite for getting sleep. And I also understand the shortage truckers are experiencing on the road and the lack of parking so the last thing I want to do is take a spot that a commerical trucker needs. With Harvest Hosts, we’re usually the only RV or one of a few on the property, parked somewhere peaceful and safe. And we sleep so much better because of it.
4. We Love Supporting Small Businesses Along the Way
Harvest Hosts gives us the chance to support local wineries, farms, breweries, museums, and other small businesses. Instead of handing over $50 for a parking spot, we get to enjoy a glass of wine, a fresh meal, or a fun local experience— often at the same or lower cost.
Our favorite stay so far? Landry Vineyards in Louisiana, just off Interstate 20. Not only was it an easy stop right off our route, but the property was beautiful, great RV parking on level ground, and we felt right at home. We’ve also come to appreciate locations with restaurants because after a long drive, cooking is the last thing we want to do. Dinner and an overnight stay? Yes, please.
If you’re an RVer who values convenience, safety, and supporting local businesses, we can’t recommend Harvest Hosts enough. It’s changed the way we travel — and we think you’ll love it too. And use code BASS20 for 20% off your annual membership.
